Effectiveness of Catching Free Radicals in Cigarette Smoke with Biofilters Made from Bidara Leaf Powder

<p class="JIPIAbstrakKeywords">A number of diseases have been stigmatized as a side effect smoking and its smoke. Reducing the dangers by capturing radioactive substances from cigarette smoke is one way to reduce or level danger. This study aims make filter made bidara leaf powder bind free radicals in Bidara with PEG solution was mixed stirred until homogeneous variations mass 0.7 grams, 0.8 0.9 grams 1 gram. The product molded cm diameter pipe hose, allowed dry before being removed mold, heated at temperature 105<sup>o</sup> C for 20 minutes. Biofilter matrix using polyethylene glycol (PEG) egg white, biofilter filler. physical characteristics membrane were obtained conducting density porosity tests SEM. effectiveness known passing smoke, then trapped analyzed ESR. results showed that use an white able 85.7% (C, O<sub>2</sub><sup>-</sup>, C, Peroxy, CO<sub>2</sub><sup>-</sup>, Hydroperoxides) 100% effectiveness, density. 0.893 g/cm<sup>3</sup> 0.6788%. Testing SEM (Scanning Electron Microscopy) shows size pores between 2-3 m, while ranges 20-430 nm. indicates ability influenced antioxidant activity (filler biofilter).</p>
